Europe will be led into the next Ryder Cup by Darren Clarke and I couldn't be happier for ISM's longest-serving client.
Darren has never disguised his desire to one day take charge of the European team in its biennial battle against the United States, but not even he could have guessed that it might be with another good friend in the opposite corner.
An emotional Davis Love III stayed for the finale of Darren's 2011 Open Championship win to offer his congratulations and it now looks like the pair will this time go head to head at Hazeltine next year.
It's a good choice because Darren has not only a high profile in America, but is also well liked. Both he and Davis, if he is as expected named as the other captain next week, will ensure that the match is played in the spirit it has almost always enjoyed.
The appointment could also have added benefits because it will mean Darren will not be able to practice as much as he normally does and that could lead to an increase in his playing fortunes.
Darren is one of those dedicated players whose idea of a day off is to have a round of golf, but for next 19 months he will have something else to occupy his time... and keeping off the practice tee as much might just benefit his own play.
Whatever happens, Darren doesn't do anything less than 100 per cent and win, lose or draw, I am sure he will put his all into Europe's cause.
It's going to be a great adventure for us all and one which may well end with Europe winning for a record fourth successive time.... » More
