Recovered

Posted: 27th March 2010

Not a great deal to shout about on the golfing front, but I’ve fully recovered from the knee injury which was troublesome leading up to my participation in the Honda Classic. I didn’t hit balls until the pro-am and started slowly when the tournament begun, like somebody who hadn’t played for a while.

The fun started after I’d finished. I’d crept into the top 20 and watched the later starters on television with my caddy Billy Foster. By the time they’d all finished I’d gone from the high teens into the top 10.

From West Palm Beach we headed for Miami where the best part of the week occurred off the course. A few of us went to watch Dwayne Wade lead the Miami Heat to victory over the Chicago Bulls. It was the first time I’d sat court-side for a game and had not appreciated how physical basketball is. Every time any of those big units fell over it measured on the Richter Scale.

Unfortunately, I didn’t induce any tremors among my opponents in the CA Championship at Doral. The Blue Monster is not a course which fits my eye and I struggled all week to make putts.

Back at home I’ve been in the gym building up my knee again. When you’re injured, I’m told, you lose 30 per cent of strength in just two days. I’ll soon be back to 100 per cent and heading for Augusta late next week for some early Masters practice. Can’t wait.
