No Truth in Speculation

Lee withdrew from the Omega European Masters (4th-7th September) as he was suffering from tonsillitis and an ear infection, which had affected his balance, during the final round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles on Sunday and had to pull out of a company day the following Monday due to illness.
He will not take part in further Tour events prior to the Ryder Cup , which takes place from the 19th to the 21st of September.
However, reports on Tuesday had suggested there was a possibility that Lee could possibly be unable to take part in the Ryder Cup having been laid low with a bout of tonsillitis. Lee spoke to Sky Sports to set the record straight and insisted there is no way he will miss the event.
"I'm fine thank you, recovering well," he said. "(The reports) are slightly wide of the mark, I think someone's just trying to fill up column inches."
He explained that the reason for his absence from this week's European Tour event, the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne, was purely logistical and not solely down to illness.
"I did pull out of last week's event in Switzerland, but made it known that if it was possible I'd like to get an invite into this week's in Germany," he continued. "But there weren't any invites left and when the promoter eventually came up with one there were a couple of conditions which I couldn't go along with so I had to turn that invite down. He wasn't feeling quite 100 percent anyway, so," decided that another week's rest, a bit of gym work and a lot of practice at home here would have me in better shape for the Ryder Cup."
He has no fears that his game will have suffered in the run-up to Valhalla. "It's only two weeks between finishing there (Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles) and the Ryder Cup. I picked it up there on the Saturday and it affected me for the last day but my sharpness should be pretty good," he added.
"I had a couple of weeks off before the US Open and I didn't do too bad there, I was pretty sharp, so I've no worries about being sharp for next week."
"I am certainly nearly back at my peak now. I woke up this morning feeling better, went to the gym and had a good workout. I'm practising hard and I'm confident I'll be 100% by the end of the week. There is no truth in speculation that I am a doubt for the Ryder Cup".
"I have this problem with tonsillitis about 2-3 times a year but I'll be having my tonsils removed in November to try and alleviate the problem."
