What a dramatic finish to the first major championship of the season at the Masters.

The standard of golf produced by Angel Cabrera and Adam Scott throughout the tournament, but particularly on the final hole and resulting play-off, was outstanding.

As ever, there could only be one winner and it was the Australian who claimed the coveted green jacket.  Adam is a good guy and I think everyone is pleased for him. He responded to the disappointment of missing out on the Open Championship last year in some style.

My 2013 season is well and truly under way and the first of the season’s really big events starts this week in Tucson, Arizona.

I’m notoriously a slow starter normally, but this year has been different thanks to the move to America.  Instead of the clubs gathering dust in the Worksop winter, they’ve been put to regular use in the Florida sun.

As a direct result, I’ve enjoyed a fairly solid start with three events in the bag starting with a tied fifth at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Since moving to West Palm Beach, I've done a lot of work in the gym and now I'm ready to start the 2013 season.

My first event is the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. It's a long journey. It's 2 and a half hours to New York then 12 and a half from NY to Dubai . Just thought I'd start the year off with a gentle one!

Then it's back to California for the AT & T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where I will be playing alongside my  Dad.

I’m not just in South Africa because it’s one of my favourite places in the world, but also with a chance of doing something nobody has achieved before.

It would be a very proud moment in my sporting history if I could become the first person in the illustrious history of the Nedbank Challenge to win the trophy three times in succession.

Looking at the names on the trophy makes you realise just how special it is to win what the indigenous refer to as South Africa’s major.

It’s not the winning margin that’s important to me, but it’s the coming back and defending the title that is so satisfying.

It’s Thursday tomorrow so it must be Shenzhen.

Yes, it’s the HSBC World Championship event in China – another stop on my annual round the world trip part two.  Hopefully I will be as successful on this circumnavigation as I was on the first having won in Indonesia earlier this year.

I do love coming to this part of the planet, but I would have preferred not to have brought a chest infection with me.  I think the kids started it all and then Laurae passed it on as a going away present.

Coughing and spluttering didn’t have too big an impact in Shanghai where I finished strongly to work my way into the top 15.
