When interviewed Lee was asked how challenging would it be to play in the wind this week, and he replied, " The great thing about that is it generally sets the men out from the boys. I like it when the wind blows. It's quite a difficult golf course. There's not a huge amount of wind out there today but it can definitely get up around here. The fairways are quite tight and you need to be a good driver of the golf ball to do well here".
"I've always enjoyed coming down here. I played in '95, and I've always got on great with the people down here and love the golf courses and the wine, unfortunately. And the food. Every time I have called home in the last three weeks it's been raining and cold so it's been great to come down here in this weather and play these great courses".
He joins Richard Sterne and three times winner, Trevor Immelman, for the first two rounds, which are 12.20 (GMT + 2) from the 1st on Thursday and 7.20 from the 10th on Friday.
Lee got off to a great start with a bogey free, 6-under par 66, and ended the first day in T3rd place. With an early start on Friday, he ended his round in joint top spot on 10-under par until Michael Lorenzo-Vera took the lead on 12-under, and Lee now lies in a four-way tie for 2nd place, following a round of 68.
Lorenzo-Vera joined Lee for the penultimate round and Lee produced a bogey-free 68 to end the day on 14-under for the event and taking a two-shot lead into the final round.
When asked how he felt about leading, going into the final day, Lee said, "I don't want to put any unneeded pressure on myself. I've not won all year and it would be nice to win this year, and also starting this Race to Dubai, it would be nice to get some momentum in that. It would also be good just to finish off the year solidly. I've played good all year, and I'll continue to go do it this week".
"I have to think and not get too ahead of myself," he added. "All week long, all I've tried to do is minimise the mistakes and just get around. I'm just enjoying it and I look forward to going out and playing every day the way I'm hitting the ball. It's a golf course I enjoy playing."
He had a 12.10 tee-time on Sunday with Gareth Maybin. Despite opening with a birdie, early bogeys at 2,4,7 and 8 put paid to Lee's chance of winning his first title of the year. He made two birdies on the way home, but had to settle for a 73. His final score of 13 - under par, earned him T3rd place, leaving Richard Sterne to take the title following a play-off.
Lee won €53,200 in prize money and moved up to 28th place in the Race to Dubai with €65,920.
He will attend Ernie Els' charity day before flying home for the Christmas break.
