Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 1st-4th October 2009

Lee remains in 4th place in the Race to Dubai after 20 events and 11th in World Ranking.

This week the European Tour moves to Scotland for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which Lee won in 2003. He still holds the record for the lowest 72 hole score, on 21-under par. The albatrosses made by Lee and Steen Tinning in 2003 at Kingsbarns, at the ninth and third holes respectively, both in round three, marked the first time in European Tour history that two albatrosses were made in the same round of the same tournament.

The event takes place on three courses, St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, 168 Pros will join 168 Amateurs playing in teams of two, comprising of one professional and one amateur including personalities from the worlds of TV, sport, films, and business.

Lee again partners ISM manager Chubby Chandler (which he has done since 2003) and joins Darren Clarke and his playing partner Abdullah Al Naboodah, for the first three rounds.

Lee had a 10.39 tee-time from the 10th at Carnoustie on Thursday, where he recorded a 1-over 73. On Friday he played on the St Andrews Course, with an 11.01 tee-time from the 1st and with a 5-under 67, finished 4-under for the day in T49th place.  On Saturday Lee is at Kingsbarns with a 10.06 start from the 1st.

The European Tour website announced  'Gale forces winds across the north and east of Scotland have forced the abandonment of Saturday’s planned third round in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

European Tour Tournament Director David Garland was left with little option as severe gusts – some reaching over 50 miles per hour, made playing conditions impossible at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns with balls moving on several putting surfaces.

Saturday’s third round will now take place on Sunday October 4 – with all players at the same venues in their original start times – with the final round, featuring the top 60 professionals and those tied for 60th place alongside the top 20 amateur teams, taking place on the Old Course in St Andrews on Monday October 5

“The forecast that we have from every source is for the winds to strengthen during the day, certainly between 11am and 3pm although they will start to taper off into the evening so we have had to abandon the possibility of any play today,” said Garland.

“We are very confident that, although it will be very breezy tomorrow and Monday, that we should be able to finish on time on Monday afternoon", he said'.

Lee guaranteed himself a place in the final round when he recorded a 6-under 66 in the third round on Sunday, lying in T14th place on the leaderboard.

He had a 9.47 tee-time from the first on Monday, with Sam Little and carding a final round of 69, 275 and 13-under for the event, finished in T9th place, winning €57,488 in prize money. Lee remains in 4th place in the Race to Dubai with €1,741,940.  Rory McIlroy currently leads the European Tour rankings with 2,008,567
