Our South Africans are certainly fast out of the traps this season.

Charl Schwartzel led from the front with two wins in South Africa and then Ernie Els scored one of the most important wins of his life in Miami to prove that over 40 doesn’t necessarily mean over the hill.

Louis Oosthuizen almost made it a Springbok hat trick, but had to settle for runners up place in the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco, but it won’t be long before he lifts a trophy rather than sees somebody snatch it from his grasp.

Similarly for Thomas Aiken, who continued his rise up the world rankings with third place behind Louis and Welsh winner Rhys Davies.

Charl made a lot of headlines for himself when finishing second to Ernie at the CA Championship in Doral and continued doing so this week at Bay Hill.   It was announced that he had taken up special membership of the PGA Tour for the remainder of the season.

This doesn’t mean he is abandoning Europe just taking up his options to accept as many invitations and opportunities to play in America as he desires.   It doesn’t really matter where he plays, I’m sure he will continue to win things for many years to come.

Ernie and Charl will be vying for top honours at this week’s Bay Hill event as everybody’s eyes start turning towards Augusta and the year’s first Major.  Can’t wait.
