Maybank Malaysian Open

Currently 28th in the Race to Dubai rankings, Lee has flown to Kuala Lumpur for the Maybank Malaysian Open at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.  He has not played in this event since 2007 (T42nd).   He won the Benson and Hedges Malaysian Open in 1997 (prior to European Tour sanctoning).

Tee-times are 08.10 local time (01.10 for the UK)  from the 10th on Thursday and 1300 (0600 UK) from the 1st on Friday, alongside Prayad Marksaeng (Thailand) and Francesco Molinari (Italy).

Lee took the lead with a blistering 65 (7 under par), before thunderstorms hit and suspended play for the day.

He lies 4-shots clear of the chasing pack, following a second round 66, which consisted of eight birdies and a double bogey (11th hole).

"I played well," he said, on completion of his round.  "On the front nine I shot five under (for the second day running) and I think the longest putt I holed was from four feet on the first. It was solid stuff".

Alongside Antonio Lascuna and Nic Colsaerts, Lee had a 9.50 (02.50) tee-time from the 1st on Saturday and by the fifth, where Lee made birdie, he was five shots ahead. He continued to make par until 11, where he added another birdie but nearest rival, Andy Sullivan was only two shots behind following his birdie at 16.  Lee found the fairway bunker on his second, resulting in a bogey at the last, reducing the lead to just one shot (71).

"It was tricky out there," Lee said.  "I didn't play as well as I did the first two days, but there were some difficult flags and it was really hot.

That's as hot as I've been on a golf course for quite some time. It was a real grind, but I'm leading going into the last round so I'm quite happy with that."

Andy Sullivan, Julian Quesne and Lee have a 9.45 (0245) final round tee-time on Sunday.  With birdies at 3 and 10,  Lee was still in the lead when play was suspended (after his 11th hole) due to thunderstorms.  When play resumed  at 5 o'clock Lee birdied 13 to take a 6-shot lead and shaved the...
